Castello di Fonterutoli is a tranquil hamlet situated on the road connecting Castellina in Chianti and the city of Siena owned by Marchesi Mazzei since 1435, that is 24 generations devoted to winemaking; the family acquired the leadership in the Italian wine world thanks to the extraordinary vocation of its land. Fonterutoli is surrounded by 650 hectares of land, 117of which are planted with vines extended on 5 vineyard sites in 3 different municipalities, with altitudes ranging from 200 mt to 550 mt a.s.l, ,20 hectares of specialized olive trees, 50 hectares of alfalfa and 1 hectares of lavender for the production of essential oil
The very particular micro-climate and the soil structure, extremely rich, rocky texture, are valorized by an extreme viticulture, with high-density vineyards (7500 p/he) and very limited yields (no more than 1000 gr per vine), and also by an attentive vinification, completely without the use of pumps.
The particular attention to preserve the unique characteristics of each vineyard and terroirs, to obtain the greatest possible expression of the terroir, using sustainable and precision farming approach.
